The ternary expression 'even' if x % 2 == 0 else 'odd' is the value expression, not the filter. It applies to every element. 1 -> odd, 2 -> even, 3 -> odd, 4 -> even. Notice the difference: a filter if comes after the iterable (for x in nums if cond); a ternary if is part of the value expression before for.
