With a decorator factory, there are three distinct moments. make('A') runs immediately at the @make('A') line - that's when 'factory: A' prints. Python then calls the returned decorator with task, so 'decorating: task' prints at definition time. Finally, 'calling: task' prints only when task() is actually invoked. Understanding this sequence is critical for debugging decorators: if setup code in the factory level fires at import time across a large module, startup time can balloon unexpectedly.
