Shallow copy of a nested dict

dict.copy() creates a shallow copy - the top-level dict is new, but the values are the same objects. Both original and shallow have 'a' pointing to the same list. Appending to it via shallow['a'] mutates that shared list. To fully decouple nested structures, use copy.deepcopy(original).
