pathlib.Path breaks a path into named parts. .stem is the final component of the path stripped of its suffix (extension). So for '/data/reports/sales_2024.csv': p.name is 'sales_2024.csv', p.suffix is '.csv', and p.stem is 'sales_2024'. Compare that to os.path: you'd write os.path.splitext(os.path.basename(path))[0] to get the same result - four function calls versus one attribute access. pathlib also gives you p.parent ('/data/reports'), p.parts (a tuple of all components), and p.with_suffix('.parquet') to produce a new path with a different extension. For any new code that touches the filesystem, pathlib is the right choice.
